ABOUT: ADY MILLS

Designer, maker and teacher based in London.

Producing innovative and functionally flexible design.
Products that are deliberately low tech in their construction methods and are influenced by the need for good, sustainable and affordable design.

Ideas that serve a real need and value, that avoid frivolous over styling. Motivated by a desire to help children access creativity and risk, whilst they are encouraged by governments to pass exams, tick boxes and turn into adults too soon.

Influences

Bob Dylan, Victor Papanek, Charles and Ray Eames, Picasso, my family and life.

FAS(CD) - This version of the Flexible Adaptable Storage range was designed to hold a large collection of Cd’s and Dvd’s. Fold Lamp - From the ‘Fold’ series I have now designed The Fold Lamp. This range is an attempt to produce lighting products that are both visually interesting but low tech in their construction method. Off Cut Lamp - Whilst teaching I discovered that a large amount of offcuts from school projects are usually discarded. Space Change Table - This inventive piece of adaptable design is so useful, that you will wonder how you ever managed with a static ‘old fashioned’ table.

One cannot build life from refrigerators, politics, credit cards and crossword puzzles. That is impossible. Nor can one exist for any length of time without poetry, without colour, without love.

Antoine De Saint – Exupery.

Chimes sing Sunday morn, today’s the day she’s sworn, to steal what she never could own and race from this hole she calls home.
